The Most Important Herpes Symptom.

By: John K

What is the Main Herpes Symptom?

The herpes simplex virus causes eruptions on the skin. In spite of the fact that there are many different strains of herpes, they all cause sores or lesions unique to that particular strain.

Two herpes strains are paramount. The virus responsible for affecting the upper body (above the waistline) is herpes simplex virus 1 or HSV 1. This virus is responsible for causing mainly oral herpes.

Herpes Transmission

The other dominant strain of the herpes family is the herpes simplex 2 virus which is known as as HSV 2. Herpes Simplex 2) affects the genitals and surrounding area. HSV 2 is generally spread via sexual realtionscontact of a sexual nature and affects the genitalia as well as the buttocks and lower back. We will be discussing the type of outbreaks this virus causes in greater detail a little further on.

Take note of the fact that although HSV 1 causes mainly herpes of the mouth, it can also easily be spread to the genitals through oral sexual activity. It is highly transmittable although it is actually a milder member of the herpes family of viruses.

The fever blisters that sometimes appear in and around the mouth when one is getting a cold or flu are typical of HSV 1. This is referred to as oral herpes.

Herpes simplex 2 is the most commonly talked about form of herpes. HSV 2 is passed through sexual activity. The lesions that occur from this strain are similar to cold sores; they are blisters on private areas.

Genital herpes (the blisters) in males will breakthrough on the shaft of the penis, the anus, the buttocks and even on the inner thighs and lower back. Females will see the sores appearing over the whole of the pubic area, including the anus and buttocks. Often the outbreak is that mild that a torch or flashlight is used during the examination.

Herpes lesions on or near the genitals could look like cold sores. An outbreak may look like a paper cut, chafing, or appear to be a yeast infection. Some symptoms of a genital herpes outbreak may include aches, pains in the area, discharge from the penis or vagina, and soreness when urinating.

Those first outbreaks of herpes are usually more severe, and generally involve flu-like symptoms and swollen glands for a week or so. Subsequent outbreaks tend to be periodic and only occur about five times a year. These herpes outbreaks can also be triggered by the stress level of the infected person. The outbreak may also last much longer due to depression.
